The view from Tio Bobs
First view of the Andes for me. About 500 miles north of Santiago
I guess we don't travel light.
The road into Santiago - 6 million people here.
No, I didn't order it....
Dick always gets the good looking ones.
This is the main road to Argentina. Closed to 1 lane in many places due to construction.
The final road block - waiting to get up to the village of Portillo
Count the switch backs - looking up.
Now, looking down.
The one and only hotel (and just about building)
Ted, this one is for you. :)
Just how much snow is there? We had to dig down 2M and in 1M to get to this broken wire splice. The photo doesn't show it, but I am on a downslope of about 20 degrees.
View of the race course.
Taken from the start area. This is a majour highway into Argentina. Mendoza is about 250km away. The trucks are lined up for 15-20 km's and moving at about 1kph up through over 30 switch backs.
Another splice to fix at the finish line. Manuel is actually standing.
Looking into the vault at the finish line.
This is what happens when the timer guy doesn't listen to the TD
Gary Allen (Alpine Canada) and Randy Rogers TD build the start ramp
I actually get to go skiing. Fresh powder and it is 6 days after the storm.
